PDX Commons in the media

In Portland (OR), the cohousing cauldron is beginning to boil with one project about to go to construction and as many as three others in the formative stages.

The SE Examiner neighborhood newspaper recently profiled PDX Commons, a 55+ cohousing new condo project which will rise near the center of Portland in one of the city’s several dynamic neighborhoods. Half of the 27 units are already spoken for. Go PDX.

What does it mean to live in community?

What does it mean to “live in community” as we do in cohousing? This sounds wonderful, but the concept is hard to explain. Coming of Age

This past weekend, we at Manzanita Village celebrated the twentieth anniversary of Northern Arizona’s first and only Cohousing community. For those of you who are not familiar with the term ”cohousing”, suffice it to say that it is a community that is created by the people who live there. How the community manifests itself is entirely dependent upon the individuals who “show up” to create it.

From the website ( ): “Our goals include building residences that are beautiful, comfortable, resource efficient and sustainable. Our site design will have extensive common facilities surrounded by a lush landscape and connected by handsome walkways. But we plan to take it two steps further – by creating a true sense of community, and hosting ongoing educational programs at our unique multiversity, located conveniently on site.”

HUD is talking about cohousing!

Dear all,

I wanted to share this exciting news. HUD is talking about cohousing! See email below from the woman I work with on Fannie Mae and FHA Project Approvals.

"Wanted to share the attached brochure, HUD DC handed out in our roundtable meeting March 24-26, 2014. You are referenced on Page 2. HUD spoke favorably in regard to CO-Housing. I'm sure you played a huge part in changing their views on the whole concept."
